Located on a major geothermal belt, Thermal spas
are one of the most popular and attractive destinations in Turkey.
According to Frommers, Turkey is in itself a wide-open spa. The
Turkish ministry of tourism has listed more than twenty thermal
resorts. Most of the resorts are located near the Aegean Mountains
and the Sea of Marmara. A visit to Turkey is almost incomplete
without soaking yourself wet, in one of its healing pools. In fact,
access to these resorts is easy as they lay near the major cities
around the country.
One of the most impressive is the spa resort of Pamukkale, located
in the Aegean region just north of the historic town of Denizli. Its
post card perfect thermal pools are naturally carved from limestone
cliffs. These outdoor pools provide a perfect temperature of around
33 centigrade. You can also visit the famous ruins of the Roman city
of Hieropolis. The water is good for drinking and cures many
diseases such as arthritis, obesity and blood pressure. Hotel
Hieropolis is the premier resort of this area.
