Turkey is full of mountains; it is like a mountaineers best dream.
The Anatolian peninsula is surrounded by mountains. To the north the
Anatolian range sweeps by the Mediterranean shoreline. Turkeys
mountains are a portion of the Alpine-Himalayan range. For the most
part ranges are pristine without development.
Mt.Agri or
Ararat
(5165 meters) is a great climb for mountaineers
during the summer months as the weather is very conducive: very
clear, beaming with sunshine, and arid. The only difficult weather
is above 3000 meters because of the change in weather conditions at
higher altitudes. It is the best course of action to tackle the
climb on the southern side because it is safer having the better
passage, access to communication, and conveyance.
Turkey mountaineering is some of the
world's best !
The tallest mountain soaring to 3,916 meters is
Erciyes and it
sports a ski resort named after it. It is a dormant volcano with the
city of Kayseri lying at its southern foot. It is a very popular
place for mountaineering in Turkey. The majority of the mountain
climbing is tackled on the northwest and eastern sides.
The
remoteness of the northwest face is quite attractive to many
mountaineers. There is a good camping spot on the northwest side of
Erciyes, which is the Sutdonduran Plateau.
Erciyes located in
Kayseri and provides
excellent mountaineering in Turkey with a gorgeous scenic view.
