The Marmara Region is
rich in history and that explains why it has so many museums each
depicting a story of the old Turkey and the people who had stayed
there. Archeologists, tourists, explorers and even people who have
come here for spending their holiday will be much excited to explore
the museums here.
Marmara is full of history. A number of huge and beautiful museums
here are worth visiting for exploring facts about the various
cultures that used to reside here in the past. Each of the museums
tells a different story.
There are a number of museums here in the Marmara Region which are
rich in historical heritage. The souvenirs and artifacts and other
pieces of miniatures here just make a person wonder what type of
people used to live here in various times.
There are many places worth visiting in the Marmara Region of
Turkey. It is my personal opinion that whenever you visit turkey, if
you get a chance then do visit the Marmara Region. This place is
rich in its natural beauty and many nature lovers from far off
places come to this region just to get more close to nature by
rejoicing in its lush green olive groves, sunflower fields and
forests.
When we specially talk about the museums of the Marmara Region, then
there are many well-known and prestigious museums here in the
region. If you are coming to Turkey, visiting these important places
would be a must for you. Your trip will not be called complete if
you will not explore the important places here.
One of the finest museums here is the
Aya Sofya
museum. It was formerly known as the Basilica of Hogia Sophia. This
museum contains the finest piece of architectural designs. This
museum was built by the order of Constantine in the fourth century.
It was the time between 532 and 537 AD when it was reconstructed by
Emperor Justinian I. At first it was a mosque but then it was
converted into a museum in the year 1935 by The Republic of Turkey.
This museum is situated in Istanbul, a province of the Marmara
Region. This museum was considered to be the biggest cathedral ever
built and it had this name for about 1000 years. It had also been
used as model for mosques such as the Sultan Ahmed Mosque.
The iconostasis, bells, vessels and altars held by the people of
Turkey in the old age are still found in many of the museums here
preserved in the form of mosaics covered with plaster.
If you are into archaeology then another great museum in Istanbul
rich in archaeological pieces is located in 1st court of the Topkapi
Palace. Other places where you can find the signs of archaeology
include the Alexander Sarcophagus and the Athenian Temple. Artifacts
from Hittite, Sumerian, Hatti, Babylonian and Assyrian cultures are
also found in these places.
The Islamic Art Museum of Turkey is located near the Blue Mosque. It
is a place that many Muslims archaeologist, tourists and families
from various areas come to visit this museum. The building of the
museum is made with dark stone. Ibrahim Pasha used to live in this
museum. Many ancient artifacts are found in this museum. These
include ceramics, metalwork, miniatures, textiles, calligraphy and
woodwork. Other than this, the ancient carpets of that time are also
found here.
These aren’t the only museums here in the Marmara Region. Yesilkoy
also has a museum named the Aviation museum. It is next to the
Marmara Sea but almost 7 miles away from Istanbul in the west side.
It is all about the aviation history of Turkey. Other than this
aviation museum, Naval Museum is also there in Besiktas. It depicts
the naval history of Turkey. Those people who love to learn the
archeology as well as history of different nations will find great
treat in visiting these museums.
There is a lot to learn and explore in each of the museum here. The
pieces of arts and souvenirs here are totally stunning. Everything
tells a story of its ancient time. If you are looking for more
tourism, Turkey sure has
much more to offer and explore.
