Every year for one week in May Turkish lovers,
scholars, and mystics alike gather around a lone grave in the city
of Sarikoy which is just East of Eskisehir. Who's grave is it you
ask? He was only the most important poet in Turkish literature.
His name was Yunus Emre and for the last seven centuries his voice,
his heart, and his poems have been at the core of the Turkish
People. The Festival is know as the Yunus Emre Culture and Art Week
and it is a grand celebration of love and harmony. For Yunus Emre
believed that the path to unity was through love. |
